PRIME MINISTER'S NEW 15 POINT PROGRAMME FOR THE WELFARE OF MINORITIES
Lending to Minority Communities

The Public Sector Banks (PSBs) were directed by the Government of India in October, 2007 to step up lending to Minorities from the then existing level of 9% of total Priority Sector advances to 13% for 2008-09 and 15% for the next four years i.e. upto March, 2013 under Prime Minister's new 15 Point Programme for welfare of Minority Communities. The Government of India,Ministry of Welfare has notified the following as minority communities:

  • Christians

  • Muslims

  • Buddhists

  • Sikhs

  • Zoroastrians &

  • Jains
